What’s shaping the future of work in the AEC industry? Building information modeling (BIM), of course.
In the public sector, pioneers such as the City of New York, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, New Mexico DoT, and others are laying the groundwork for BIM adoption through their vision, strategy, and BIM standards.
If you’re looking for the perfect primer on BIM and happen be in or around the Southern California region, DLT is bringing its “Future of Making Things in Government” roadshow to you. The next two stops are San Diego (August 15) and Los Angeles (August 16), where they’ll feature Lynn Allen’s AutoCAD Tips and Tricks in addition to breakout sessions on AEC and BIM.
Why BIM, Why Now?
Government agencies in Southern California are no strangers to the many benefits of BIM. At Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), BIM is being utilized along with virtual reality as part of the airport’s modernization program. Using these digital tools, the project team is finding new ways to communicate design intent and help the airport authority and local government buy into project elements by immersing them into a 3D space.

Meanwhile Caltrans, is using cloud-based BIM workflows to support road and highway design projects across its portfolio of 50,000+ miles of road. With BIM and 3D modeling, the agency is substantially reducing project costs and delivering better transportation solutions to the public.
If you think how you design and deliver public sector infrastructure and construction projects is “good enough”, this event isn’t for you. But if you believe technological innovation is one path to improved productivity and more efficient use of tax payer dollars, then it’s time to reserve your seat for the Future of Making Things in Government.
