Designing a product can be a difficult process due to multiple factors such as time constraints and manufacturing limitations. This is where reverse engineering comes in handy. Reverse engineering can aid in the design process by reducing time, costs and ensuring the safety of the product’s users.
What is Reverse Engineering?
Simply put, reverse engineering is used to deconstruct a machine or software to extract vital design information, with the goal of understanding the original part designs. For example, if a mechanic wants to restore a 1960s car, he could reverse engineer the existing engine to recreate missing or hard-to-find components. In a similar way, engineers strip a product into smaller components to determine how a part is designed.

Edward Ward
Edward joined Delcam in 1999 as an application engineer before moving to Canada in 2002 where he continued his role providing training and technical guidance to customers across North America. He has over 20 years of valuable knowledge in the CAD/CAM industry and following the acquisition of Autodesk in 2016 he has spent the last few years as a Technical Sales Specialist working closely with customers to help them grow and support their manufacturing business.
Blaine Duke
Over the past 22 years, Blaine has worked with small to large companies as well as the Department of Defense. Blaine provides Design and Make software solutions for Manufacturing. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors and being with family.
Christian Poluch
Christian joined Delcam in 2015 as an application engineer where he supported PartMaker, FeatureCAM, and PowerMill; specializing in Swiss and Multi-Axis Lathes. Before that he worked as a manufacturing engineer in multiple aerospace machine shops specializing in CAD design.
