If you’re a Civil 3D user, it’s now become easier to collaborate on complex projects with teams spread across offices, contractors, and even time zones.
Autodesk recently announced a new collaboration capability between Civil 3D and its BIM 360 Design cloud solution. This new functionality called – “Collaboration for Civil 3D” – allows AEC teams to collaborate securely on Civil 3D projects, store design files, data shortcuts, and external references in a common data repository.
Work collaboratively on the same platform – wherever you are
It doesn’t matter where project teams are – in the field, in the office, at home – they can work on the same platform to design infrastructure and transportation projects more efficiently. The new feature compliments the existing Revit Cloud Worksharing capabilities in the same platform. With Revit Cloud Worksharing, users can collaborate in real-time and co-author Revit models, then connect design data downstream to the jobsite because all project information is centralized on the BIM 360 project delivery platform
According to Autodesk: “Not only can customers collaborate using streamlined workflows on a unified platform, they can also perform their day-to-day data management activities in the same place.”
Customers who participated in the Collaboration for Civil 3D beta-program are already reaping benefits: “Collaboration for Civil 3D on BIM 360 Design has proven to align our site development and civil design teams so they can use BIM 360 holistically across all disciplines,” said Russ Dalton, AECOM’s BIM Director for the Americas. “By expanding the collaboration capabilities of BIM 360 we can align with other disciplines in real time at a point in the lifecycle when decision making is key. This will ensure we’re in immediate step with all disciplines including civil, which will benefit the entire project team.”
